Diagnostics

The MVP Diagnostic Laboratory has provided swine and bovine veterinarians and their clients with reliable, accurate, and timely diagnostic services since 1984.

The focus of our efforts is to meet the diagnostic needs of the client and to assist in the selection of appropriate isolates for autogenous bacterin production.

MVP pioneered the characterization of Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae and Streptococcus suis through serotyping.

MVP developed immunohistochemistry staining techniques for the detection of microorganisms in tissue.

In 1999 MVP began the use of Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) to identify, characterize, and genotype microorganisms.

MVP has developed a specialized media and technique for the isolation of mycoplasmas.  In addition, we employ PCR protocols to speciate the mycoplasmas and to detect the presence of certain genes that are known virulence factors.

MVP has developed assays to quantitate the production of alpha toxin and beta 2 toxin from a given Clostridium perfringens isolate.
